SCOTCHEER DANCE DIVISION RULES 2006

 This year for the first time all dance divisions at both the Scottish Nationals and the European will be split into a Cheer Dance Division and a Dance Division. The following rules must be heeded when deciding which dance division you choose to participate in. Please read all the rules and regulations below before deciding which dance divisions your squad will enter. If you have any questions please email the Scotcheer Office for clarification.

To avoid any confusion we have now called the divisions CHEER DANCE & DANCE

YOU CANNOT HAVE A CHEERLEADER COMPETE TWICE IN ANY AGE DIVISION.

  • Dance Teams are restricted to either a maximum of 30 cheerleaders / or a minimum of 5 on the floor at any one time.

  • Cheerleaders cannot compete in both Cheer Dance and Dance in the same age division, but they can crossover to compete in other divisions as long as they are eligible under our age rules (ie) Peewee Cheer Dance and Junior Dance.

  • Any squad can compete in both Cheer Dance and Dance in any one age division. However to do so they must have a minimum of 30 cheerleaders of that age group.

  • Any more than 30 cheerleaders you must split them into 2 teams but they do not have to be split equally. You can have any number of combinations as long as the maximum or minimum are not exceeded in either Cheer Dance or Dance Divisions.

  • You can now enter two teams in the one Dance division

  • Squads who register for both divisions in any age group, and on the day fail to have the minimum number of cheerleaders required to do so (which is a minimum total of 30) will not be allowed to compete. Please make sure that you have enough of a squad before entering two teams in one age division.

  • All teams have a maximum of 2 minutes and 30 seconds to complete their routines. There is no minimum time limit, and all routines must be suitable for viewing by audiences of all ages. Vulgar or suggestive material is not allowed.

  • All routines will be judged on a 100 point scale.

  • Jewellery is deemed a safety hazard, and as such every item of jewellery will cause an infraction on your teams scorecard. Plasters or adhesive tape covering jewellery does not constitute a safety measure. All items of jewellery must be removed prior to entering warm up area.

  • No tumbling, partner stunts or pyramid building will be allowed. This includes, but is not limited to, standing or stepping on backs, cartwheels, forward rolls or lifts.

  • You must land with at least one foot on the ground after a jump, leap or kick before landing in any other position.

  • Knee drops are restricted. Any jump landing on the seat, knees or back, or landing with both feet back are restricted.

  • All dance teams will perform on a staged floor area marked 42' x 38'.

  •  A maximum of 2 teams per squad can be entered into any of the following age categories Peewee / Youth / Junior / Senior.

  • A 15 point penalty will be deducted from the total score for the following technical skills performed within the Cheer Dance division. No leaps of any kind including, but not limited to, Switch leaps, Jete and Saute de Chat leaps. No Pirouettes, Fouettes, Kick Lines and or Pique turns. Jumps are defined as leaving the ground with both feet such as Toe Touches, Pikes etc. these may be performed in this category as they are a cheerleading skill.

  • Emphasis is on uniformity, synchronisation and utilisation of strong/sharp motions and arm placement, as well as ground work, group work and level changes for visual effect.

  • The majority of the routine must be performed with poms.

  • If you have a team competing in both Dance and Cheer Dance, you must have two completely different dances. You cannot use the same dance used in the Dance Division and only take out  the technical elements. No Dance Props can be used in this division.

  • A maximum of 2 teams per squad can be entered into any of the following age categories Peewee / Youth / Junior / Senior.

  • Routines can encompass a variety of styles, but all routines performed in this category must include at least some Technical skills.

  • Technical skills are defined as leaps, (including but not limited to Switch leaps, Jete and Saute de Chat leaps), Pirouettes, Fouettes, Kick Lines and or Pique turns.

  • Jumps defined as leaving the ground with both feet such as Toe Touches, Pikes etc are also allowed in this division.

  • You do not need to encompass all of the above technical skills but you must incorporate at least one of them to qualify for this division.

  • If you have a team competing in both Cheer Dance and Dance, you must have two completely different dances.

  • You cannot use the same dance used in Cheer Dance Division and add the technical elements.

  • Dance Props and poms can be used in this division.
